The man was not unaware of the origin of the woman. His first response to seeing her indicates his recognition of her source. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; … (Genesis 2:23a). Adam had named the creatures of earth, so it was natural for him to give a name to the female—one that would match her purpose for being. Original creation had one generic name, Adam or mankind, but now there were two bodies and two names. Man was now distinctly male and woman was distinctly
